Religious Education

At St Mary’s School we aim to support the parents as educators of their children in faith.  We take into account the uniqueness of each child in their ongoing faith formation.  Drawing from the life experiences of the children, we follow a comprehensive and sequential P – 6 Religious Education Program incorporating the gospel values, liturgical seasons and the local calendar.

Through our teaching and learning activities we aim to:

  • develop a knowledge of our Catholic faith and what it means to live out the message of Jesus in our world today;
  • provide students with an experience of formal and informal prayer, thus giving them an opportunity of growing in a relationship with God;
  • provide opportunities for Sacramental preparation and celebration.

Our program is planned using the ‘Awakenings’ document which provides guidelines to Catholic Schools in the Ballarat Diocese.  ‘Awakenings’ covers strand areas which include Jesus Christ, God, Church, Sacraments, Scripture, Christian Life, Christian Prayer, Mission and Religion & Society.
